Do you need to pressure cook or blanch the pork belly before air frying?
There is no need to pressure cook or boil the pork belly for my recipe. We are slicing the pork belly into small pieces so it will cook quickly.
Is this healthier than deep frying?
Yes, it is healthier than deep frying as no oil is involved. A lot of the fat on the pork belly will drip out while air frying.
Where do you buy pork belly?
I buy them at my local Asian grocery store, but check your local grocery store and see if they have them. Costco also sells them but they don’t come with the skin.
What BBQ sauce did you use?
You can any kind of BBQ sauce that you like. I used Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce for this recipe.
What kind of air fryer are you using?
I’m using the Power Air Fryer Oven which is a little bigger than most air fryers. It also comes with different attachments I can use for different recipes. For this pork belly recipe, I used the wire rack which allows the fat to drip down. I’ve also used the wire rack for meatballs, tilapia, chicken wings, shrimp, and pork chop recipes. Check them out!
This air fryer also comes with a rotisserie which is handy for air frying whole chicken. Another attachment I often use is the rotating wire basket which is perfect for cooking fries like what I did with my sweet potato fries recipe.
If you have a smaller air fryer, you may need to cook the pork belly in two separate batches. Do not overcrowd or overlap the pork belly. You want to leave space in between so the air can circulate.
Can you cook this in the oven?
You can cook this in the oven. Set the oven at 450F and bake for 30 minutes. Flip and cook for an additional 15 minutes.
- The thickness of pork belly vary, so you may need to adjust the time. Always keep an eye on the pork belly while air frying.
