Use ground beef with enough fat

When it comes to burgers, ground beef with sufficient fat is the way to go. Ground beef that is too lean won’t give you the flavor and juiciness you’re looking for. When shopping for ground beef, look for labels that specify the amount of fat. You want your ground beef to have at least 15% fat content.

If your ground beef doesn’t have enough fat, you can always add some fat such as butter or suet. This will ensure that your burger is juicy and flavorful. You can also mix different types of ground beef to get the right amount of fat and flavor. For example, you can mix 80/20 ground beef with ground chuck for a more flavorful burger.

Adding bacon to your burgers is also a great way to add flavor and fat content. Adding bacon will also help keep your burgers from drying out while cooking them on the grill.

The burger patty and seasoning

The key to an amazing burger patty is to season it properly. Start by combining equal parts of salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and onion powder in a bowl. Mix the ingredients together until they become one uniform blend. Then, take a handful of the seasoning blend and sprinkle it on both sides of the hamburger patty.

Make sure to spread it evenly across the entire patty so that each bite will be full of flavor. Finally, press down on the patty with your hands to make sure that the seasoning adheres tightly to the meat.

Wood pellets for cooking burgers on a Pit Boss grill

Hickory pellets are the most popular choice for burgers due to their strong, smoky flavor. Applewood pellets are another excellent choice, offering a sweet, fruity flavor that pairs well with beef. Mesquite pellets are a great option for those who like a more intense, smoky flavor. For a unique flavor, try maple or cherry pellets.

Each type of pellet will impart its own flavor to your burger, so experiment with different combinations to discover your favorite.

When is a burger patty fully cooked

To determine if a burger is cooked through, you should use a thermometer and look for an internal temperature of 160°F. Once the burger has reached that temperature, you can safely move it off the grill or out of the pan.

Additionally, you should check the texture and color of the patty itself. It should be lightly browned on the outside and have no pink remaining on the inside.

Furthermore, the patty should feel firm to the touch and not too soft or squishy. If you’re unsure, you can always cut into the patty to check its doneness.

Favorite toppings

When it comes to toppings, the possibilities are endless! Whether you prefer a classic topping or something more unique, there are countless options to choose from.

Some of the most popular smoked hamburger toppings include cheese, pickles, lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. For a smoky flavor, bacon is always a great choice.

To add a zesty kick, try adding jalapenos or your favorite hot sauce. BBQ sauce is also a tasty option for those who like a bit of sweetness.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can try adding different types of cheeses, like blue cheese or goat cheese. For a richer flavor, you can add an egg or even some guacamole.

What sides go well with smoked burgers

Some classic options for sides with smoked burgers include potato salad, coleslaw, and french fries. Potato salad is a great accompaniment that brings a creamy texture to the plate. Coleslaw is the perfect pairing for smoked burgers, providing a crunchy and refreshing contrast. French fries bring a salty flavor and a comforting touch to your meal.

If you’re looking for something a bit more unique, consider other options like sweet potato fries, onion rings, or roasted veggies. Sweet potato fries are a fun twist on traditional fries, while onion rings bring a savory crunch to your plate. Roasted veggies like broccoli and asparagus provide a smokey flavor that pairs perfectly with a smoked burger.
